Cause of disease
Dengue is caused by a virus called flavivirus, which is spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. The disease spreads from an infected person to another healthy person. The Aedes mosquito bites during the day. When the Aedes mosquito bites a person suffering from dengue, he or she first becomes infected. Then when the same ‘Aedes mosquito bites another healthy person, he transmits the dengue virus to his body. These viruses do not show their effect immediately upon reaching the body, but rather thrive from body heat and start working after 3-4 days. Blood circulation in the body starts affecting the system, blood platelets count, it reduces the immunity of the patient, he feels very weak and has high fever and body pain. That is why this fever is also called breakbone fever. According to the WHO report, more than 100 million people fall victim to it worldwide every year.
